Senior officials in the Biden administration meet with major automotive leaders including Tesla’s Elon Musk & Lucid’s Peter Rawlinson in a special meeting today. It was to talk about a charging station infrastructure for electric vehicles that should offer an interoperable experience based on any car model. Currently, Tesla’s network is limited to Tesla vehicles.
The administration said in a statement “there was broad consensus that charging stations and vehicles need to be interoperable and provide a seamless user experience, no matter what car you drive or where you charge your EV.”
Elon Musk is not a fan of the idea because Tesla’s network gives them a unique competitive advantage right now. Other EV companies and car manufacturers really do not have that advantage.
In the photo above, you can see Elon Musk of Tesla in the top right square and Peter Rawlinson of Lucid Motors right beneath him. There is also Jim Farley of Ford, Carlos Tavares of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Tom Doll of Subaru, Mary Barra of GM, Jeff Guyton of Mazda and many more.
